Tops

  • Sleeveless, asymmetrical necklines

  • Raglan sleeves (where the seem runs to the collar instead of to the shoulder)

Pants

  • Any style that will accentuate your bottom and leg line, such as:

    • Distressed denim, moto or other attention-getting features

    • Patterns and prints

    • Straight, boot cut, boyfriend or baggy trousers or jeans

    • Combat, palazzo, flares, wide legs

    • Embellishment or contrast stitching on the pockets, leg line, etc.

    • Wide belt loops, side pocket details

    • Slim-fitted waist with gradual flare to create width and balance broad shoulders

    • Cuffed or ankle length pants that show off your ankles

    • Shorts that show off your legs

    • Shorts with embellishment, bright colors and/or texture

    • Ankle length pants and/or rolling your pants at the ankle

    • Bright, light, textured or printed pants or shorts that draw attention (ex: Leather or vegan leather)

Avoid: Dark skinny jeans with no wow factor don't make you look your best, but you can offset them with attention-getting shoes or by a minimalist top.

Skirts

  • A line skirts

  • A peplum band 

  • Detail at the hips, side pockets

  • Horizontal striped skirts

  • Soft a-line with inverted pleats

  • Shorter length to show off your legs

  • Prints or bright colors

  • Straight skirts that just about cover the knee

  • Full skirts

Avoid: Longer pencil skirts. 

Dresses

  • Sleeveless

  • Lower necklines

  • Peplum dresses

  • Prints, bold colors, embellishment, etc. below the waistline

  • Body con dresses with patterns or elements that create curves 

  • Maxi dresses with slight a line and/or fuller skirt

To minimize the bust line: 

  • Solid top portion of the dress in neutral or deep colors

  • Vertical or diagonal stripes or details

  • Wrap styles and tailored options with darts

  • Deep shawl collars

Avoid: Off both shoulder necklines, dresses with bold or puffy sleeves and a pencil skirt bottom. 

Jackets

  • Hems that end at the hips rather than the waist elongate and draw the eye down

  • Asymmetrical hemlines

  • Waterfall cardigans or jackets

  • Longer cardigans that hit at the waist

  • Deep (not wide) V neck jackets

  • Jackets that include a low slung belt

  • A peplum band

  • Clean lines and minimal hardware/ embellishments

  • Jackets made from softer fabrics like jersey

  • Feminine jackets that show your shape

To minimize the bust line: 

  • Solid jackets in neutral or deep colors

  • Vertical or diagonal stripes or details

  • Wrap styles and tailored jackets with darts

  • Deep shawl collars

Avoid: jackets with hems that are shorter than hip level. bolero jackets, shoulder pads, jackets that are especially bulky on top- shawl collars. Masculine styles. Jackets with excess hardware/ zippers/ detail. Bold colors or prints. Boxy cuts.

 

Shoes

  • Shoes or boots in a color that contrasts your pants.

  • Ankle straps, booties or other statement shoes

  • Knee-high boots

  • Heavier or rounder shoes

  • Kitten or wedge heels

  • Colorful or print shoes

  • Shoes with interesting texture or unusual design elements

Avoid: pointed or dainty shoes, blending your shoes with your pants, skirt or dress. 

Accessories

  • Low slung belts that do not contrast dramatically with your outfit

  • Opt for earrings instead of necklaces

  • Statement shoes, bold pedicure

  • Bold handbag that sits at the hips

  • Bracelets, watches, rings drawing attention to your hands

Avoid: Statement necklaces and bold scarves unless you balance them with visual interest on the bottom half of your body.
